The Queens Arms, Pub and Restaurant.
Old Glossop, Derbyshire.
The queens Arms was built in1825 by William Robinson but was then only a beer house.
Then in 1837 when Queen Victoria ascended to the throne the pub became an ale house with its name probably changing to Queens Arms in Victoria's honour.
At this time the present Town Hall could not be completed, Quater Sessions were held here. This was handy for across the road at the bakers shop was the Old Town Hall, also known as T'lock for it also served as the local jail.
It is rumored that a passage did lead from the Queens to the Old Vicarage.
Towards the end of the 19th century the Racecourse Company bought the Queens in 1883 to take advantage of the proposed Manchester Racecourse which was going to be built round Shire Hill.
